For each day that passes by, the sun stays longer above the horizon. Spring is coming to the Arctic and we’re a month and a half from the start of the midnight sun season. Seasons shift swifly in the Arctic, there’s simply a lot going on up here which in a sense reflects our recent activity. We have lots of projects coming up, but we have to admit it: when the hurricanes and blizzards have swept by, we do allow ourselves to take a little break every once in a while (see left). Taking a look at what’s in the pipeline, there’s the new compilation materialising – a dedication to our far-flung spot on the map – our broadest journey to date featuring everything from a cinematic number by Silent Horror, some Scandinavian trance from a new side project of Taigan Sunset’s, a twilight blaster from one of our new artists, Sundance Kid, some British-sounding goa trance in the spirit of ‘96 from Bloomen and much more. Stay tuned for more updates. We’re not just preparing a new compilation for you all, but also a series of EPs starting with LAB. Going tier three, this three-track EP is definitely a dancefloor roller-coaster in the science-fiction vein. Check out the preview sample below. If you like what you hear, please support LAB by subscribing to his SoundCloud page. |

Our first competition has ended and we have no less than 6(!) happy winners! Yes, we were supposed to draw 5 winners but eventually ended up making sure that there are six happy new owners of our latest release, Séance. It seems like the last question proved to be quite a challenge as only two people could provide us with the correct answers! Good job, Mikkel and Karan! Thus, we had to draw the last four winners (see pictures below). The winners are: Congratulations! We wish to say thank you to everyone who participated! ![]() ![]() ![]() And here are the correct answers with some comments. Question 1: DVSM was founded in… a) Late summer of 2004 Former DVSM DJ Dennis the Menace called Alex at work, asking what he thought about the idea of starting a promotion agency to handle bookings and support the new wave of nocturnal music that was engulfing the scene. Alex liked the sound of what he heard but asked why not take it to the next level and establish a record label, and the rest is history. Question 2: Jigar ‘Silent Horror’ has released quite a few tracks on various compilations and made guest appearances on artist albums. How many, roughly speaking? c) More than 40 tracks Jigar has been prolific in recent years and a quick visit to his Discogs profile reveals that he’s been involved in the release of more than 40 tracks(!). Question 3: The track Drums In The Deep was originally not supposed to be featured on the album Masters of Outhouse. Nevertheless, it was featured on the final version of the album. Why? b) Lulle ‘Ka-Sol’ included Drums In The Deep by accident when he mastered the CD. Upon discovering the new track, Alex was adamant that they keep Drums In The Deep instead of the original first track, and David ‘Buddha’ and Lulle took his advice. This was obviously the most difficult question of them all, but it’s true, it all started with one of the best mistakes ever in the history of our label. At the time of preparing the release, Alex was staying in Barcelona and had access only to a limited wireless connection and really struggled with getting the files downloaded onto his computer. After a long time’s wait (and some sweat and frustration), he was finally able to download a list of tracks that were meant to be on the album. However, he was surprised to find that the first track didn’t sound anything like Rytmus (which was later released on Chronicle of Mystery Recods), the track he expected to hear. Nevertheless, this was a eureka! moment and Drums In The Deep was kept for the album. |
